Introduction  

Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai decided to bring the faculty members of various engineering colleges together to solve the regional relevant problems under the guidance of eminent researchers from various reputed organizations. BARC, Mumbai had organized first theme meeting in 2012 to share their experience of collaborative research and product development to explore the use of advanced technology in service of rural India. The third and fourth theme was held at Shri Vithal Education & Research Institute (SVERI), Pandharpur in 2014 and 2015 where more than 125 participants and 40 Engineering Colleges from Maharashtra participated in these theme meetings. Based on similar theme, in December 2016, an International Conference with title “Techno-Societal 2016: Advanced Technologies for Societal Applications” was arranged. In this conference 413 papers have been received with around 500+ authors from more than 130 Institutes. The audience of around 700-1000 students and academicians from Engineering Institutes, Pharmacy Colleges, Science Colleges and Universities, Government Colleges, IITs, IISc, BARC and various other organizations was addressed by 5 International and 17 National speakers. The Pre-conference workshop titled “Transforming Technologies into Commercial Products” was arranged in-line with the International Conference and this workshop was sponsored by RUSA Maharashtra.
